Alternative routes in Everest and partial road access in Manaslu offer safer passage for adventure travelers
KATHMANDU: Following recent landslides and adverse weather, trekking and road access in several regions of Nepal is gradually resuming, according to updates from the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
Everest Region: TAAN reports that the trail between Namche and Jorsalle remains closed due to landslide damage. Trekkers and guides are being advised to use an alternative upper route for both upward and downward trekking.
Manaslu Region: The road section between Dovan and Tatopani, previously disrupted by landslides, has now been repaired and reopened for trekking, though vehicle movement is still restricted, according to TAAN. Jeep services are currently available only up to Soti, and trekkers must continue on foot beyond that point.
TAAN has advised the visitors to exercise caution due to rolling stones and unstable terrain.
According to DHM, skies are clear across much of Nepal, including Kathmandu, and heavy rain is not expected in western and central regions. Some light rain and clouds remain in eastern districts near the Nepal–India border.
Both domestic and international flights have resumed, and road access on previously obstructed sections, including the Muglin–Narayanghat highway, has been cleared. Authorities continue to monitor conditions and expect all roads to be fully accessible by this evening.
Helicopter services remain on standby for emergency evacuation and rescue operations, and all immigration offices are fully operational to facilitate travelers. Government agencies are also coordinating infrastructure assessments to evaluate the impact of recent weather conditions.
NTB and TAAN advise trekkers to check updated route information, travel in groups, and respect local guidance for a safe journey. The improvements in weather and infrastructure now make it easier for tourists to explore Everest’s high trails and the scenic Manaslu region, which remain among Nepal’s most sought-after trekking destinations.
Travelers are encouraged to contact local guides and trekking operators for real-time updates.
