CHITWAN: The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has launched the country’s first-ever Safari Tourism Mart in Meghauli, aiming to position Nepal as a global destination for responsible wildlife tourism.
The inaugural Wild Nepal Safari Mart 2026, organised in coordination with local governments and tourism entrepreneurs, has brought together more than 30 international delegates from Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Turkey and Germany, along with conservation officials and tourism stakeholders.
Addressing the opening session on Friday, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mukunda Prasad Niraula, said the event provides a key platform to promote Nepal’s wildlife tourism globally and foster partnerships and investment.
Chief Executive Officer of NTB, Deepak Raj Joshi, described the event as a milestone, stressing the need for “responsible tourism” that protects ecosystems and supports local communities. He noted that Nepal, despite its small land area, hosts rich biodiversity including Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinoceroses, snow leopards and red pandas.
NTB Vice Chairperson Ram Prasad Sapkota said the Mart would help connect global buyers with local tourism operators and turn international delegates into ambassadors of Nepal’s tourism experiences.
Acting Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitrasen Adhikari, highlighted the region’s potential to emerge as a global wildlife tourism hub, with local governments committed to strengthening sustainable tourism infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, international conservationist Mohit Agrawal underscored the growing demand for responsible travel and said Nepal offers a strong model of balancing conservation and tourism.
The Mart also featured presentations by conservation experts and representatives from protected areas including Chitwan National Park, Shuklaphanta National Park and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.
Alongside business-to-business meetings and field visits, delegates experienced local culture through traditional Tharu and Kumal performances.
NTB officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen Nepal’s position in the global wildlife tourism market and promote year-round, sustainable tourism products.
