Most major highways open, but some routes affected by rain and landslides: NTB update

Nepal Tourism Board urges travelers to check latest road and weather updates before travel

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has issued its #NepalNOW Situation Update – 18, reporting that most major highways across the country remain open, though travel is slow in some areas due to rain and landslides.

According to NTB, the Kathmandu–Mugling, Mugling–Pokhara, and Mugling–Narayanghat sections are open, though traffic movement is slow in some stretches. Highways such as Narayanghat–Butwal, Kathmandu–Sisneri–Hetauda, Koshi Barrage, Baglung–Pokhara, Beni–Mustang, and Jomsom–Korola Border are also open for travel.

Similarly, routes connecting Hetauda–Birgunj, Pathalaiya–Bardibas, Bardibas–Itahari, Itahari–Kakarbhitta, Butwal–Nepalgunj, Nepalgunj–Surkhet, and Kohalpur–Dhangadhi remain open, NTB informed.

However, according to a Nepal Police notice cited by NTB, several sections have been affected by heavy rain or landslides, including:

  • Koshi Highway (Sankhuwasabha): Continuous rainfall in Bhotkhol Rural Municipality-4 and Makalu Rural Municipality-3.
  • Mechi Highway (Ilam): Heavy rain at Rajduwali and other areas in Ilam Municipality-9.
  • Pasang Lhamu Highway (Rasuwa): Landslide at Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-2.
  • B.P. Highway (Kavrepalanchok): Landslide at Kavre Roshi Rural Municipality-11.
  • B.P. Highway (Sindhuli): Landslide at Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-1.
  • Karnali Corridor (Humla): Landslide at Kharpunath Municipality-5.

Travelers are advised to stay updated with the latest weather and road conditions before embarking on their journeys, NTB said.
