KATHMANDU: Renowned Nepali climber has created history, scaling the world's second highest peak for the seventh time on Monday.

According to Iswari Paudel, Managing Director at Himalayan Guides, HG guide Siddhi Bahadur Tamang scaled K2 for the seventh time. Siddhi now makes the most successful ascent of Mt K2 by an individual climber. “Siddhi scaled K2 on Monday morning and returned to the base camp in the evening," Paudel said.

Siddhi, a renowned guide for the Himalayan Guides and Madison Mountaineering, now holds the record of the most ascent of K2. According to climbing records, Siddhi from Dolakha scaled the 8,611-metre peak in 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and twice in 2024. Siddhi has climbed many peaks including Mt Everest 12 times.

Meanwhile, legendary climber Mingma G from Imagine Nepal Treks scaled K2 for the sixth time. Along with Maria Alexandra Danila (Romania) who became the first Romanian to reach the summit of the world’s second-highest peak, Mingma G also equalizes sixth ascent record with Mingma Gyabu Sherpa. From Imagine Nepal, Dilixiati Ailikuti (China) also set the record as the youngest person to climb K2 while Jangbu Sherpa and Sohail Sakhi climbed K2 without the use of oxygen tanks.

Altogether 27 climbers from Imagine Nepal, Seven Summit Treks, and 14 Peaks Expedition scaled K2.

After an exhausting 20-hour push from Camp 3, climbers from multiple international teams successfully summited K2—the first August summits since 2011. Leading the ascent was Mingma G and his Imagine Nepal team, which included climbers from Nepal, China, Pakistan, Romania, and the U.S. Following closely, the joint team from Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition also reached the summit, demonstrating strong collaboration and teamwork.
