KATHMANDU: ‘The Everest Man’ Kami Rita Sherpa has done it again. The legendary mountaineer summited Mount Everest for the 32nd time this morning, breaking his own world record for the most successful climbs of the world's tallest peak.

According to Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Managing Director of 14 Peaks Expedition, Kami Rita, who launched his summit push from South Col last night, reached the summit at approximately 10:12 am local time. "This season, Kami Rita scaled Everest as part of 14 Peaks Expedition, but without any foreign client to guide," Tashi Lakpa noted.

Born on January 17, 1970, in Solukhumbu, Nepal, Kami Rita now works as a senior climbing guide for both 14 Peaks Expedition and Seven Summit Treks. He has held the record for most Everest ascents since May 2018. Hailing from Thame village, he has dedicated his life to mountaineering and has become virtually synonymous with the peak.

Tashi Lakpa added that Kami Rita had climbed Everest twice each in 2023 and 2024. After returning to base camp this season, he will decide whether to go for a 33rd summit.

Kami Rita's mountaineering career began in 1992, when he joined an Everest expedition as support staff. Since then, he has fearlessly taken on numerous expeditions, summiting Everest multiple times.

Between 1994 and 2026, according to Tashi Lakpa, Kami Rita has scaled Everest 32 times, K2 and Lhotse once each, Manaslu three times, and Cho Oyu eight times.

"Kami Rita and the other summiteers are now descending to the lower camp," said Gyanendra Shrestha, the liaison officer at base camp.
