Everest legend marks milestone with 31st Everest summit, celebrating Sherpa resilience and Nepal’s mountaineering legacy.

KATHMANDU: Renowned Everest climber Kami Rita Sherpa has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records for achieving the most true-summit ascents of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks, with a total of 42 successful climbs. The record was confirmed after Kami Rita reached the summit of Mount Everest for the 31st time on 27 May 2025.

The Guinness certificate states: “The most true-summit ascents of the 8,000ers – mountains higher than 8,000 m – is 42, achieved by Kami Rita Sherpa (NPL) when he summited Everest for the 31st time on 27 May 2025.”

In a statement, Kami Rita described the recognition as one of the proudest moments of his mountaineering career. He said the achievement represents decades of dedication to the Himalaya and is rooted in the hard work and spirit of the Sherpa community.

“Every climb reminds me that the mountains are powerful teachers,” he said. “They demand respect, patience and courage. They show us how small we are, yet how strong we can be when we listen to our heart.”

Kami Rita emphasized that the milestone is dedicated to Nepal, the Sherpa people and his family. He said the Himalaya have shaped his life and continue to inspire his journey. “This achievement is for everyone who believes in commitment and humility,” he added.

The veteran climber, often called the “Everest Man,” said his journey in the high mountains will continue — “higher, stronger, and always with respect for the Himalaya.”
