KATHMANDU: Members of the historic Ghyun Himal expedition formally handed over framed summit photographs and the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) flag carried during the climbs to the NMA on Thursday.

The photographs and the flag were received by NMA President Fur Gelje Sherpa at a brief ceremony held at the NMA Secretariat in Nagpokhari, Naxal.

The expedition team—comprising NMA Board member Bikram Karki, along with Pasang Kaji Sherpa (P.K. Sherpa) and Prem Magar—successfully completed the first-ever ascent of three previously unclimbed peaks of the Ghyun Himal range: Ghyun Himal I (6,099 metres), Ghyun Himal II (6,029 metres) and Ghyun Himal III (6,027 metres). The ascents were achieved in a single continuous push and executed entirely in pure alpine style.

Congratulating the climbers, NMA President Sherpa hailed the achievement as a significant milestone in Nepal’s mountaineering history and expressed appreciation for carrying the NMA flag to the summits of all three virgin peaks.

The Ghyun Himal expedition is being regarded as a notable accomplishment for Nepali alpinism, particularly for its commitment to lightweight alpine-style climbing and the successful exploration of previously unclimbed mountains.
