KATHMANDU: In an extraordinary display of determination and sisterhood, four Sherpa sisters from Rolwaling Valley, Dolakha, have etched their names in mountaineering history as the first female siblings to summit five of the Seven Summits—the highest peaks on each continent.

Chhiri Aangjum Sherpa, Jangmu Sherpa, Tshering Namgya Sherpa, and Dawa Futi Sherpa—daughters of Rinzin Doma Sherpa and the late Dorjee Sherpa—have already conquered Everest (Asia), Elbrus (Europe), Aconcagua (South America), Carstensz Pyramid (Oceania), and, most recently, Kilimanjaro (Africa).

Chhiri Aangjum completed the fifth summit on August 8, joining her sisters in their remarkable quest. "They are the first group of four sisters to achieve this milestone," said Nima Nuru Sherpa, President of the Nepal Mountaineering Association.

The Seven Summits challenge includes Everest, Aconcagua, Denali (North America), Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Vinson Massif (Antarctica), and Carstensz Pyramid. "Only Denali and Vinson remain for them to make history," added Mingma G, Managing Director of Imagine Nepal Treks.

The sisters credit their late father, Dorjee Sherpa—a skilled mountaineer who lost eight fingers to frostbite on a 1983 Everest expedition—as their inspiration. Despite his setback, he continued guiding and instilled in them a love for the mountains. "We climb to fulfill his dream and to show women that no peak is beyond reach," Chhiri Aangjum shared.

Their journey continues with plans to summit Vinson in December and Denali in next June. If successful, they will become the first sister quartet to complete both Everest and the Seven Summits—a testament to their resilience and the enduring spirit of the Sherpa community.
