US tops source markets as India and China rank second and third

KATHMANDU: Nepal received 132,814 international tourists in October 2026, marking a 3.4 percent increase compared with the same month last year, according to data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

The figures reflect continued growth in foreign visitor arrivals during Nepal's peak autumn tourism season, when trekking, mountaineering and cultural tourism activities are at their busiest.

The United States emerged as Nepal's largest source market during the month, contributing 17,437 visitors, or 13.13 percent of total arrivals. India ranked second with 12,097 visitors (9.11 percent), followed by China with 11,695 visitors (8.81 percent).

The United Kingdom contributed 9,385 visitors, accounting for 7.07 percent of arrivals, while Australia sent 9,352 visitors, or 7.04 percent of the total.

Europe leads by region

By regional grouping, Europe accounted for the largest share of visitors at 30.02 percent, underlining the importance of European markets for Nepal's tourism industry.

Other Asian countries contributed 20.36 percent of arrivals, while visitors from SAARC countries made up 18.11 percent. The Americas accounted for 16.01 percent, followed by Oceania at 7.64 percent.

Additional arrivals came from other international markets (5.78 percent), the Middle East (1.76 percent) and Africa (0.32 percent).

The Nepal Tourism Board said the October figures demonstrate sustained international interest in Nepal as a travel destination, supported by the country's mountain tourism, cultural heritage and adventure tourism offerings.
