Legislation aims to promote broader tourism offerings beyond traditional destinations

KATHMANDU: The National Assembly on Monday unanimously passed the Tourism Bill, 2081 BS, paving the way for expanded and diversified tourism development across the country.

The Upper House approved the legislation following a proposal by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha, who said the bill was introduced to broaden Nepal's tourism sector beyond its traditional offerings.

"The Bill has been introduced with an objective of diversifying and promoting Nepal's tourism sector," Minister Sinha told lawmakers during the session.

The passage of the bill marks a significant legislative step toward modernizing the country's tourism framework, which has largely relied on mountaineering and heritage tourism. Industry stakeholders have long called for legal and policy reforms to support emerging tourism segments including adventure sports, wellness tourism, and community-based tourism.

The bill will now move forward in the legislative process before being enacted into law.
