KATHMANDU: Trekkers heading towards Samagaon and Larkya Pass can resume their journeys in the Manaslu region after local residents built an alternative trail and wooden bridge at Therang Khola in Namrung, Gorkha.

The alternative route was developed after flooding swept away the Suksam suspension bridge, disrupting a key section of the Manaslu trekking trail.

According to Chumnubri Rural Municipality, the trail and bridge were constructed under the leadership of Ward No. 4 Chair Pema Gyalpo Lama, with the involvement of the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) office and local residents.

The development has reopened pedestrian access, allowing trekkers to continue towards the Manaslu and Larkya Pass routes.

The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) had earlier announced that the route was reopened through alternative trails and bridges built by local communities, commending the efforts of Chumnubri Rural Municipality, MCAP and the Namrung community.

The reopening comes just days after flooding at Therang Khola swept away two bridges, forcing authorities to advise trekkers to suspend journeys.

The newly developed section also offers trekkers a striking view of a large waterfall, though users of the bridge have been urged to exercise caution, particularly when stopping for photographs or selfies.

Meanwhile, the rural municipality distributed food supplies to four families whose houses were completely damaged by the flood and arranged temporary accommodation.
