Heavy downpours forecast in select hilly and Terai regions as monsoon remains active

KATHMANDU: As monsoon conditions continue to influence Nepal’s weather patterns, the country is bracing for another day of widespread cloud cover and rainfall. According to the latest forecast, moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely across various parts of the country, with heavier spells expected in select regions.

Throughout the day, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, especially their hilly areas, are expected to receive moderate rainfall. Similar conditions may occur in some parts of the Terai, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated areas of the Terai region in Koshi Province, as well as in the hills of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini.

By nightfall, the weather is forecast to remain mostly cloudy, with occasional showers and thunderstorms in Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces, along with surrounding hilly areas. A few locations in the Terai may also experience brief rain spells. The hilly region of Gandaki could see intense showers in isolated spots.

Meanwhile, Kathmandu Valley is likely to experience overcast skies throughout the day, with occasional rain or thundershowers. Daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 26 to 28 degrees Celsius, while the nighttime minimum will likely fall between 19 and 21 degrees Celsius. The chance of rainfall in the Valley remains at 60% both during the day and night.

Meteorologists note that the monsoon low-pressure system currently lies near the average position in the west and slightly to the north in the east. With the monsoon in full swing, residents, particularly in hilly areas, are advised to stay alert for potential localized flooding or landslides.
