KATHMANDU: Three brothers from Nepal's most celebrated climbing family have received a Guinness World Records certificate for becoming the most siblings to complete the Seven Summits — the highest peaks on each of the world's seven continents.

The official citation reads: "The most siblings to climb the Seven Summits is three, by brothers Mingma Sherpa, Chhang Dawa Sherpa and Tashi Lakpa Sherpa (all Nepal). The challenge was completed on 20 October 2024, when all three climbed Puncak Jaya/Carstensz."

The achievement sets the record for the most siblings to complete the Seven Summits, a challenge that involves climbing the tallest mountains on all seven continents.

The achievement adds to an already remarkable collection of world records held by the three brothers. Mingma and Chhang Dawa Sherpa previously set the Guinness record as the world's first siblings to climb all 14 eight-thousanders. Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, one of the Himalayas' most experienced expedition leaders, holds the Guinness record for summiting Mount Everest at the age of 20 without supplemental oxygen.

Chhang Dawa is also widely recognised as the expedition leader behind Polish alpinist Andrzej Bargiel's historic autumn ski descent from the summit of Everest on September 22, without supplemental oxygen, a feat hailed as groundbreaking by the global mountaineering community.

Mingma serves as Chairman of Seven Summit Treks, Nepal's largest expedition operator, employing hundreds of Nepali youths and bringing thousands of international climbers and trekkers to the country each year.

All three brothers operate Seven Summit Treks, headquartered in Kathmandu.

The Guinness recognition highlights the brothers’ contribution to global mountaineering and Nepal’s reputation as a hub for high-altitude expeditions.
