KATHMANDU: Sixteen-year-old Nisha Sasikumar from Tamil Nadu, India has summited Mount Everest, becoming the youngest female to scale the world's highest peak from the south side, according to her expedition organiser Elite Exped.

Nisha reached the summit on May 25 and is currently descending safely from the South Summit. She was supported by Sherpa guides Tenji Sherpa, Phura Dorji Sherpa, and Phursang Sherpa throughout the climb.

Born in March 2010 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Nisha capped months of preparation, training, and acclimatisation in the Khumbu region.

"From the Khumbu Icefall to long nights at high altitude, every step has been a reminder of how much mountains demand — and how much they teach," she had written on the eve of her summit push. "This journey has never just been about records. It's about discipline, resilience and seeing how far belief, hard work and persistence can take you."

The Everest ascent is part of an ambitious single-season plan: Nisha is also attempting Denali in Alaska this season, aiming to complete two of the world's Seven Summits within a few months.

No stranger to high-altitude records, Nisha had already made history in October 2025 when she summited Carstensz Pyramid (4,884m), the highest peak in Oceania and Indonesia, at the age of 15 years, 7 months, and 8 days, becoming the youngest female to do so. That record was confirmed by the India Book of Records in December 2025. The climb was also organised by Elite Exped.
