KATHMANDU: Manaslu (8,163m) and Ama Dablam (6,814m) emerged as the most climbed mountains this autumn, according to the Department of Tourism’s latest report.

According to Himal Gautam, Director at DOT, this autumn climbing season, Mount Manaslu saw 31 teams comprising a total of 374 climbers, generating a substantial USD 1.12 million in royalty fees for the Nepalese government.

In contrast, the nearby and highly popular Ama Dablam hosted a slightly higher number of teams at 34, with a greater total of 436 climbers, but it brought in a significantly lower royalty revenue of USD 436,000, Gautam added.

Other notable peaks included Himlung Himal (7,126m) with 186 climbers, contributing USD 70,674, and Dhaulagiri I (8,167m) with 36 climbers and USD 54,000 in royalties.

Interestingly, Mount Everest (8,848.86m) saw only four climbers from two teams this autumn, generating USD 30,000, highlighting the shift in focus toward mid-altitude and technically attractive peaks.

Officials say that mid-range peaks are attracting more climbers, helping spread tourism benefits across multiple regions.
