KATHMANDU: Veteran Nepali climber Lakpa Sherpa, also known as Makalu Lakpa, has summitted Carstensz Pyramid (4,884m), Oceania’s highest peak, three times within just five days.
According to 14 Peaks Expedition, Lakpa reached the summit again at 12:28 p.m. local time on October 24, while guiding two international climbers to the top.
Earlier, he had summited Carstensz Pyramid on October 22 at 7:40 a.m. local time, guiding four climbers including Nepali singer Raju Lama and Cristel Vanessa Estol Garay, who became the first Uruguayan to reach the summit. His first ascent during this series was on October 19 at around 7:00 a.m. local time, marking his completion of the fourth peak of the Seven Summits.
“This remarkable dedication and strength truly reflect his experience and commitment to mountaineering,” 14 Peaks Expedition said.
Located in Indonesia’s Papua province, Carstensz Pyramid—also known as Puncak Jaya—is considered one of the most technically demanding peaks among the Seven Summits.
