Korean trekker falls to death in Everest region, IFMGA guide-led team completes recovery mission

KATHMANDU: A rescue and recovery team led by an IFMGA guide today recovered a body of a trekker from the Republic of Korea who fell to his death in the Everest region.
According to police, 38-year-old Lim Chungman was found dead at the height of 5,400 m near Khongma La Pass enroute to Lobuche in the Everest region.
The rescue and recovery mission led by IFMGA/NNMGA guide Riten jangbu Sherpa along with Tenzing Jangbu Sherpa, Dawa Tshering Sherpa and Nima Dorje Sherpa spotted the body of Lim.
On the request of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Riten Jangbu-led team was mobilized to recover the body, said police.
Lim who was on a trek to the Everest Base Camp went missing since Saturday after he was last seen at a hotel in Chukhung. It seems that he fell some 40 m from a cliff, police added.
His camera, phone, laptop and drone were also found in the incident site. “Trekking alone without a guide is always risky,” police warned.
Lim who arrived in Kathmandu from Inchon Airport on March 31 on Korean Air flight entered Sagarmatha National Park on April 6 to begin his trek, record shows. Lim had a return flight of May 6.
His body was being brought to Kathmandu for postmortem, said police.
