KATHMANDU: Twenty-nine participants of the second Summer Skill Course for Professional Mountain Guide Training have successfully summited 6,355-metre Danga Peak in the Kanchenjunga region of Taplejung after completing practical glacier training.

The expedition formed part of the course jointly organised by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and the Sustainable Tourism Project. Six instructors accompanied the trainees throughout the field training and summit programme.

According to the NMA, the course combined classroom learning, technical preparation and practical mountain experience. Theoretical sessions, rock-climbing exercises and preparatory training were conducted in Kathmandu, while the field component took place on Danga Peak.

Participants are returning after successfully completing both the high-altitude training programme and the summit expedition, the association said.

The Summer Skill Course is a component of the 1,696-hour Professional Mountain Guide curriculum developed and approved by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT).

As part of the programme, trainees are required to undergo training on a mountain above 6,000 metres to gain practical experience in high-altitude guiding and demonstrate technical competence through a real expedition.

Officials said the training is designed to prepare future professional mountain guides by combining technical instruction, glacier travel skills and hands-on expedition experience in Nepal’s high mountain environment.
