Names of 10 missing climbers in Broad Peak avalanche revealed; two bodies recovered

KATHMANDU: A search mission has been mobilized in Pakistan after at least 10 climbers went missing in a massive avalanche that struck Broad Peak on Thursday. At least two bodies were recovered by the search team, officials said.

Consulting multiple sources, The Tourism Times obtained the names of the climbers who lost contact after the avalanche.

According to preliminary information, renowned Nepali-British climber Nirmal Purja ‘Nimsdai,’ IFMGA guide Yukta Gurung from Gorkha, and Nima Sherpa from Makalu - all from Elite Exped - were missing when the avalanche hit the team twice just below Camp III.

Celebrated Omani climber Nadhira Al Harthy, Gyalu Sherpa from Okhaldhunga, and Nwang Thendu Sherpa of Makalu from Seven Summit Treks also lost contact in the incident.

Rolwaling’s Kili Pemba Sherpa, who recently completed 14 peaks, along with Chinese climber Wang Zhong from Imagine Nepal Treks, was also reported missing.

The Pakistan Alpine Club shared that Sohail Sakhi from Pakistan and his American client, Mallory Geis, also went missing in the avalanche.

A helicopter has already been mobilized for the search mission, said officials. Reports confirmed that at least two bodies have already been recovered from the incident site.
