Nepal has made an urgent appeal to the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage for a rapid and direct response to the catastrophic Bhote Koshi flash floods, saying the disaster has caused losses and disruption beyond the country's immediate response capacity.
The Rasuwa flood has caused more than Rs 50 billion in preliminary damage to Nepal’s tourism sector, including damage to 142 hotels, 57 restaurants and 141 tourism-related vehicles, Tourism Minister Khadak Raj Paudel said on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has intensified diplomatic and consular efforts to trace hundreds of foreign nationals missing in the Bhotekoshi floods, coordinate international rescue assistance and facilitate the identification and repatriation of victims.
The disaster triggered by an ice-rock avalanche in Rasuwa has prompted a regional effort to identify other potentially dangerous sites across the Hindu Kush Himalaya and strengthen systems for monitoring and warning communities in time.
