KATHMANDU: The Thorong Pass and Tilicho trekking routes in Manang have been closed until further notice, according to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).

In an update issued on Wednesday, the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC)-run ACAP said both routes remained closed and urged trekkers and trekking agencies to check the latest trail and weather conditions before starting their journeys.

"Further updates will be shared once the routes are confirmed safe," the project said, stressing that the safety of trekkers remains its primary concern.

The latest notice supersedes an earlier update that said the Manang trekking route had reopened following a safety assessment.

ACAP has been issuing regular updates on trekking conditions in the Annapurna region following recent adverse weather, road disruptions and snowfall in the high-altitude areas.

The closures come amid broader weather-related disruptions across Nepal's mountain districts, where heavy snowfall, avalanches, road blockages and trekking interruptions have affected tourism activities during the autumn season.

Trekking agencies and independent trekkers have been advised to closely monitor weather updates and coordinate with local authorities before travelling to the Annapurna region.
