NMA holds interaction with National Assembly members on mountain tourism

Association briefs lawmakers on current state of mountain tourism, policy challenges and future priorities
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) on Tuesday organised an interaction programme with members of the National Assembly, focusing on issues, challenges and opportunities related to Nepal’s mountain tourism sector.
The programme was attended by National Assembly members Suresh Kumar Alemagar, Sonam Geljen Sherpa, Dr Anjan Shakya, Bishnu Devi Pudasaini, Ganga Kumari Belbase, Krishna Bahadur Rokaya, Jayanti Devi Rai, Radhe Shyam Paswan, Ghan Shyam Rijal and Padam Bahadur Pariyar.
At the outset of the discussion, NMA President Fur Gelje Sherpa presented an overview of the current status of mountain tourism in Nepal through a PowerPoint presentation, highlighting trends, concerns and areas requiring policy attention.
Former NMA presidents Ang Tsehring Sherpa, Santa Bir Lama and Nima Nuru Sherpa shared their perspectives during the interaction, offering suggestions drawn from their long experience in mountaineering, expedition management and tourism development.
The programme was also attended by former general secretaries Kul Bahadur Gurung and Mohan Lamsal, current General Secretary Rajendra Bahadur Lama, Secretary Chandan Thapa, Central Secretariat members Thupden Sherpa and Furi Geljen Sherpa, Peak Profile Committee convenor Speed Kaji Sherpa, and Chief Administrative Officer Jinesh Sindurakar.
