KATHMANDU: Helicopter rescue operations in Nepal's restricted areas can now be conducted without prior bureaucratic delays, the Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) has announced.
The association said lengthy paperwork requirements had for years prevented member airline helicopters from reaching ailing citizens and tourists in restricted zones in time. AOAN had written to the Home Minister on April 10, 2025, flagging the difficulties, prompting the Ministry of Home Affairs to intervene.
The ministry has since directed AOAN to carry out rescue operations promptly under Point 5 of the Restricted Area Helicopter Flight Procedure 2075, with member airlines required to inform the ministry after completing each rescue, AOAN stated in the press statement issued on Friday.
AOAN further expressed gratitude to the Nepal government and the Ministry of Home Affairs for the swift resolution.
