KATHMANDU: The first-look poster and official teaser of ‘Road To Everest’, a new documentary tracing a real-life journey from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest, have been released ahead of its Nepal premiere later this month.

Directed by Nirmal Shrestha, the 50-minute documentary follows a man in his fifties as he challenges age and his own limitations to pursue his lifelong ambition of climbing the world's highest mountain.

The film explores the physical and mental challenges of high-altitude mountaineering alongside the contribution of the Sherpa community and the effects of climate change on the Himalayan environment.

Renowned Nepali mountaineers Phurba Tenzing Sherpa and Nima Gyalzen Sherpa feature in the documentary. Phurba has summited Everest 18 times, while Nima has climbed Everest 10 times and completed all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks.

Binod Gurung, Suraj Gurung and Shrestha also feature in the film, with their personal experiences contributing to its narrative.

The production team said the documentary is the result of more than two years of research, filming and production. The story was written by journalist Santosh Acharya and Shrestha, while broadcaster Bhusan Dahal provides the narration. The documentary is available in both Nepali and English.

According to the producers, the film captures the journey from sea level to the summit using authentic footage, without artificial or computer-generated visuals. The production team describes it as the first Everest documentary made entirely by Nepali filmmakers and technical professionals to document such a complete real-life journey.

Produced by the We Will Rise Foundation, the documentary aims to promote Nepal's tourism while raising international awareness about environmental challenges facing the Himalayas.

The Nepal premiere is scheduled for August 22 in Kathmandu, followed by its international premiere on September 13 in Hong Kong. The film will subsequently be screened in Nepal and at international film festivals and cinemas.

The newly released teaser offers an initial glimpse of the film's focus on Everest's beauty and dangers, the people involved in the journey and the environmental changes affecting the Himalayan region.

‘Road To Everest’ has a runtime of 50 minutes.
