KATHMANDU: The Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) and Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) have issued safety notices urging trekkers, tourism operators and local residents to exercise high caution amid forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the regions.

MCAP warned that heavy rainfall from Ashoj 8 to 11 could increase the risk of landslides, falling rocks, rising water levels in rivers and streams, and damage to trekking trails and bridges in the Manaslu Conservation Area.

It urged trekkers and other travellers to avoid travelling during hazardous weather and remain in safe locations until conditions improve. They have also been advised to follow safety instructions issued by MCAP, local authorities and security agencies.

Similarly, the ACAP Area Conservation Office in Lwang, Kaski, has urged tourists, tourism businesses and local residents to exercise high caution from Friday to Sunday as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are forecast in parts of Gandaki Province.

The office warned of risks from landslides, floods and possible heavy snowfall along the Mardi Himal, Saripakha-Khumchai-Korchain-Meshram-Saitighatta and Ghalerk-Tarahilltop trekking routes.

It also urged residents and visitors staying near rivers and streams within the conservation area to remain alert throughout the period and take necessary safety measures.
