Lukla training targets Icefall Doctors and field staff working on Everest

KATHMANDU: The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has entered into a partnership with Leave No Trace Korea to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable practices among mountaineers and support staff operating in the Everest region.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed between the two organisations, SPCC has begun delivering Leave No Trace (LNT) education to climbers, Icefall Doctors and its own field staff. As part of the initiative, a one-day LNT training programme was recently conducted in Lukla.

According to SPCC, 22 participants, including Icefall Doctors and SPCC personnel, took part in the training, which focused on minimising environmental impact and strengthening waste management practices in the high Himalaya.

The session was facilitated by Kim Young Sik of Leave No Trace Korea, whose training, SPCC said, contributed to reinforcing environmental awareness among those working directly in the Everest area.

SPCC said the collaboration is aimed at supporting cleaner, safer and more sustainable mountaineering activities in the Khumbu region, where environmental pressures continue to increase with rising expedition traffic.
