KATHMANDU: Kang Tae Sun, Founding Chairperson of the BYN Black Group, has stated that the Himalayan Climate Charter (HCC) 2026 will serve as a global call to protect mountain environments threatened by the unprecedented climate crisis.
Sharing his thoughts on the eve of HCC 2026 in Namche Bazaar, Tae Sun emphasized that the June 1 event is not standalone, but rather a value-adding platform that translates global climate dialogue into localized action, community-centered engagement, and mountain-focused partnerships.
Tae Sun, along with company CEO Kang Jun Suk, traveled from South Korea to the Everest region to support the historic event, organized by the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality in partnership with the Nepal Mountaineering Association and other local stakeholders. BYN Black Yak is the main sponsor.
"BYN Black Yak has been at the forefront of supporting Nepal’s mountaineering community—championing cleanup campaigns, preserving the mountain ecosystem, and most recently, signing the Himalayan Climate Charter Declaration 2025," Tae Sun said.
Having made more than 50 visits to Nepal over several decades, Tae Sun added that the Namche Action Plan Declaration for 2026–2030 will encourage global players to take urgent action to save the mountain environment.
A native of South Korea’s Jeju Island, Tae Sun shared that he first grasped the gravity of climate change after witnessing turtles trapped in plastic waste, rendered motionless. It was then he realized that protecting the planet requires safeguarding the upstream—starting with the mountains.
"Through HCC 2026, we want to make it clear: the mountains are calling. This time, we intend to answer with action," he said.
Tae Sun added that the summit’s agenda goes far beyond indoor speeches, allowing participants to experience firsthand the realities of climate change in the Himalayas during the event.
