New York handover marks new leadership as group pledges stronger Himalayan conservation and climber support

KATHMANDU: The US Nepal Climbers Association Inc. (USNCA), a non-profit of Nepali climbers and mountaineers based in the United States, has strengthened its presence in Nepal by appointing Laxman Bomjan as the Coordinator of its Nepal Chapter.

As Nepal Chapter Coordinator, Bomjan will focus on expanding collaboration with US-based headquarters and driving programs to benefit local climbing communities. He will oversee the flagship campaign “Save the Himalayas”, aimed at promoting sustainable mountaineering, climate awareness, and glacier preservation.

“His appointment reflects our commitment to supporting climbers, strengthening cultural pride, and protecting fragile Himalayan ecosystems for future generations,” said Ang Dawa Sherpa, General Secretary of USNCA.

Beyond advocacy, USNCA has supported climbers in practical ways: donating gear to the Nepal Mountain Academy and Women Climbers’ Association, providing financial aid for Sherpa families, and assisting injured climbers. The group also sponsors events such as the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open, and continues to campaign for climbing insurance and mountain safety.

The US Nepal Climbers Association is a registered 501(c)(3) umbrella organization odedicated to supporting the mountaineering community, preserving Himalayan culture, and contributing to the education of children of climbers who lost their lives. Its growing presence in Nepal reflects the association’s vision of fostering global solidarity while safeguarding the Himalayas.
