Visitors advised to prepare for extreme cold and high-altitude conditions; free ambulance service available for emergency evacuation to Jomsom
KATHMANDU: Lomanthang Rural Municipality in Upper Mustang has issued a public notice urging all visitors and trekkers to take necessary precautions while traveling in the region, citing increasing cases of altitude sickness among tourists.
According to the notice, the municipality has been providing assistance to affected tourists despite limited resources, including free ambulance services for the evacuation of critically ill patients to Jomsom.
The local government has advised travelers to assess their health conditions before visiting the high-altitude area, particularly those with heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or lung-related illnesses. Such individuals are urged not to travel without consulting a doctor.
The notice further recommends wearing proper waterproof and windproof jackets, thermal clothing, hats, sunglasses, and suitable footwear to protect against cold, wind, and intense sunlight. Travelers are also advised not to travel on an empty stomach and to stay well hydrated by drinking at least three to four liters of water or fluids daily. Alcohol and smoking are discouraged during the journey.
In addition, visitors are requested not to litter plastic bottles or waste and to respect local culture, traditions, and religious sites.
For emergency assistance, tourists can contact the municipality at 9857630330, 9860278145, 9849285118, or 986132732.
