KATHMANDU: As the mountaineering world prepares to say its final goodbye to legendary mountaineer Nirmal Purja, “Nimsdai,” renowned Nepali climbers Mingma G and Mingma David Sherpa left today for London to attend the funeral.
His final farewell and funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 26, at 10:00 a.m. local time at Milton Abbey in Blandford Forum, southwest England. Former Deputy Speaker and RSP lawmaker Indira Rana Magar has also left for London to attend the funeral.
Nimsdai was among the 10 climbers killed in an avalanche that struck the climbing team on Broad Peak on July 30. The team led by Mingma G retrieved the mortal remains of Nimsdai and the others, while Nimsdai’s business partner Mingma David also reached Pakistan to coordinate the search and recovery mission.
Elite Exped has managed all funeral arrangements in coordination with Nimsdai’s family, while the UK is preparing to honour him with a dignified funeral, including a Guard of Honour.
Earlier, serving and retired personnel from The Queen's Gurkha Engineers regiment, along with friends and family members, attended his memorial service at Invicta Park Barracks in Maidstone on August 12.
A legendary mountaineer, former Gurkha, and Special Forces veteran, Nimsdai redefined the limits of high-altitude climbing.
