Italian climber ascends without supplemental oxygen; more Seven Summit Treks members to follow

KATHMANDU: Italian mountaineer Marco Confortola and Nepali climbers Pasang Ngima Sherpa and Lakpa Tasi Sherpa successfully reached the summit of Gasherbrum I (8,080 meters) in Pakistan’s Karakoram range, according to Seven Summit Treks (SST).

They summited the peak at around 11:50 AM on July 20, the SST said in its facebook post.

Confortola, a senior UIAGM/IFMGA-certified mountain guide since 1993, achieved the ascent without using supplemental oxygen. The team is currently descending to lower camps.

Seven Summit Treks also confirmed that other members of their Karakoram expedition are preparing for their final summit push in the coming days, it added.

The successful climb marks another highlight in the ongoing summer mountaineering season in the Karakoram, drawing attention to international and Nepali climbers collaborating on high-altitude ascents.
