Manaslu Circuit (via Larke Pass) and Tsum Valley treks have resumed after the October 11 Budhi Gandaki flood

KATHMANDU: Trekking has resumed on the Manaslu Circuit and in Tsum Valley after partial repairs to routes damaged by the October 11 Budhi Gandaki flood, the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) said in a safety advisory.

TAAN said roads, trails, bridges and teahouse lodges in the region were damaged in the flood and have been partly repaired. Trekkers can travel by vehicle as far as Machhakhola to begin the trek towards Larke Pass and Tsum Valley. A 10-minute alternative trail has been opened at Yaru Bagar to bypass a difficult section.

The Department of Immigration and the Manaslu Conservation Area Project have confirmed that permits are open, TAAN said.

On the Manaslu Larke Pass route, trekking has been in full operation for the past few days, the association said. Trekkers have crossed the repaired sections through Khorlabesi, Jagat, Philim and Nyakphedi, and have reached Samagaon and Dharmashala.

In Tsum Valley, locals have installed four new wooden bridges and restored trail sections in and around Sardi Khola, reopening the route to Chhekampar and Mu Gomba, TAAN said.

TAAN urged trekkers and support staff to trek cautiously and consult locals on route conditions. It said the information was verified with Chum Nubri Rural Municipality chairperson Nima Lama and local youth leader Serap Gurung.
