KATHMANDU: Abiral Rai, an IFMGA-certified mountain guide, along with other climbers, successfully scaled Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia at 7:00 a.m. local time on October 18.
For Rai, the ascent of Oceania’s highest peak, Carstensz Pyramid, marks the third summit in his Seven Summits challenge.
“The successful ascent of Carstensz Pyramid was a testament to teamwork,” Rai said.
This climb represents a significant milestone in their respective quests to conquer the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each continent. “It is a remarkable mountaineering achievement for Nepali climbers — Hari Budha Magar, Mingma Sherpa, and myself,” he added.
Rai, from Solukhumbu, is a trailblazer in the mountaineering community. He is the first member of the Rai community, specifically the Thulung Rai, to summit Mount Everest and to earn international certification as a mountain guide.
A three-time Everest summiteer, Rai has led over 20 successful expeditions across the Himalayas, Central Asia, the Alps, and South America.
