KATHMANDU: A German climber and a Nepali Sherpa reached the summit of Mt Putha Hiunchuli (7,246 metres), also known as Dhaulagiri VII, at 9 am on Wednesday, according to their expedition organiser.
Birgit from Germany and Darinji Sherpa of Nepal made the ascent through an expedition organised by I AM Trekking and Expeditions.
Pemba Jangbu Sherpa, managing director of I AM Trekking and Expeditions, confirmed the summit success. The company described it as the first successful ascent of a peak above 7,000 metres in Nepal's autumn 2026 climbing season.
The climbers' descent details were not immediately available.
Putha Hiunchuli lies in the Dhaulagiri range of western Nepal and is a popular objective for climbers seeking a 7,000-metre Himalayan peak.
